Member Company Profile No.16:
Clearflow Air Movement Hygiene

Clearflow Air Movement Hygiene Services, based in Cardiff, have developed a range of patented infrasonic cleaning services for cleaning pipework, HVAC (heating, ventilation, airconditioning & ventilation), pipework, engine components and bonded structures.
The infrasonic system, which is automated, sends a cleaning pulse of low-frequency sound waves that remove clagging and debris build-ups, which offer the triple benefit of reduced maintenance cost, increased boiler efficiency and demonstrable and substantial fuel savings. Many boiler systems in operation in shipping today owe their design heritage to these systems.
Acoustic cleaning encompasses the realm of sound transmissions through solids. The cleaning is achieved by the creation of rapid pressure fluctuations which are transmitted into the bonded dry material causing the particles to resonate and dislodge from the surface they are deposited on. Once dislodged, the materials fall, either due to gravity or are carried away by the gas or air stream within the process. Clearflow have enhanced the core technology with a range of services that can manage, mitigate and remove sources of bacterial contamination within systems.
Clearflow’s management team, with nearly 100 years' experience between them, have developed a range of applications for the system that have harnessed the core technology where prior and existing cleaning methods do not deliver. Examples of these markets include power plants, paper mills, hospitals, shipping and the example which will be discussed below, aviation.
Aviation customers globally experience issues with the coking of engines. These issues are caused by a range of factors including dirt and debris and prevailing flight conditions. The coking issues can cause cleaning difficulties at both workshop (maintenance, repair & overhaul) and on-wing support level. If the issue remains undetected or unsolved, they can lead to substantial costs in operating downtime, manhours and inspection failures. As Clearflow’s patented systems know no barriers, we can facilitate in-situ cleaning not previously possible, hence speeding-up cleaning processes. The Clearflow system also enables our clients to "save" parts that may previously been scrapped, delivering cost advantages over existing methods and also offering environmental benefits in preventing the scrapping and burning of failed parts.
Many of our customers face difficulties in managing systems not designed for cleaning, with many manual methods having outlived their useful purpose. With ever-tightening Health & Safety legislation and increasing emphasis on duty of care, the Clearflow system, with its demonstrable evidence of success is a valuable partner in swifter and more effective maintenance management.
