UW Swansea host major European ceramics conference
The 10th European Inter-regional Conference on Ceramics (CIEC 10) is to be hosted by The Materials Research Centre at University of Wales Swansea between 3rd and 6th September 2006. This biennial event is organised on behalf of the "Five Motors" for economic development in the European Union, with the Welsh Assembly Government acting as the prime UK funding partner. The regions constituting this grouping are Baden-Wurttemberg (Germany), Rhone-Alps (France), Lombardy, (Italy), Catalunya (Spain) and Wales.
Scientific papers are invited covering all aspects of processing, structural characterisation, properties and industrial applications of monolithic ceramics, ceramic matrix composites, glass and ceramic coatings.
A programme of keynote and oral presentations will be formulated from distinguished research groups within the Five Motors consortium and the wider European and International stage. Contributions from the academic and industrial sectors within Wales are especially encouraged.
Staff from The Materials Research Centre at Swansea, in collaboration with Rolls-Royce plc, will be presenting their latest results from leading edge mechanical property assessments involving advanced, high performance, structural ceramics destined for applications in the aero gas turbines.
